In 1789 Le Barbier painted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen overseen by the ‘Eye of Providence’ in the triangle. Its 17 articles were adopted by the National Assembly on 26 August 1789 and they became the preamble to the Constitutions of 1789 and 1792.
